HOLA leaders reflect on the importance of representation and inclusion

Learn how leaders of our colleague resource group, HOLA, are creating opportunities to explore and honor the richness of various cultures and reflecting on the importance of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Hispanic Heritage Month is a month full of representation of all Hispanic and Latin cultures across the globe. It's a common misconception that all customs are the same across countries of Hispanic and Latin descent. Although they're similar, there are many different customs, foods, and words in the Spanish language. And I love learning about different foods, customs, dialects, and words across Latin countries.
As a leader and founding member of HOLA at CSC, we strive to educate our colleagues with the information we can provide from our very own experiences. Whether through roundtable discussions, virtual cooking classes, in-person salsa classes, or other events, we're helping to create inclusive spaces. We want everyone to feel comfortable being themselves, accents and all.
No matter what your background, it's great to feel like you belong. That's why diversity and belonging in the workplace are so important. It shows representation among a wide range of differences. It offers fresh perspectives and forward-thinking, and it helps lead to organizational success.

As a kid, I remember my mother telling me how important Hispanic Heritage Month was because of the spotlight on the various cultures and the history being discussed everywhere. Today, I have a deeper appreciation for this month because of the spotlight on the areas of improvement in certain countries. As a proud Puerto Ricano y Cubano, each island has come so far, but there is more to be done.
To be Hispanic and in leadership means a lot to me. It shows that CSC values me as a leader and provides representation to other Hispanics in the company. There's a genuine appreciation for diversity and belonging here. I've always believed that every person deserves a seat at the table and should always be heard. I appreciate how this company advocates for equality.

This month is more than just a celebration; it's an acknowledgment of the rich tapestry of cultures, languages, and histories that make up our communities. It's a time to reflect on the legacies of our ancestors who have contributed so much to the world despite facing immense challenges. It's also a reminder of the ongoing struggles that our communities face, and a call to action to continue advocating for equity and representation.
I love that HOLA offers a platform for us to connect, share our experiences, and support each other in our professional and personal journeys. We're able to advocate for cultural competency in the workplace, inclusive recruitment processes, and champion the visibility and advancement of our Latinx employees. We're helping create pathways that recognize and nurture the potential of our Latinx colleagues.
Representation, especially in leadership, is a powerful and transformative force. Having leaders who understand the unique challenges and perspectives that come with being a Latina in the workplace, has been crucial in shaping my career path, so I'm proud to do my part in paying it forward.
